Picnic & Pops at Shelter Cove Park
Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra
New this year, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra will perform three
"Picnic & Pops" Concerts at Shelter Cove Park on July 1, 15 and 29.
These events are the start of our new Picnic & Pops Program under our
recently acquired Performance Shell. We are very pleased to offer this
program to both visitors and residents alike, and we hope to make this a
yearly event.
Our first performance on July 1 celebrates our Patriotic Heritage - A
STAR SPANGLED SALUTE! Listen to patriotic music from throughout our
nation's history, and listen to great songs from the Big Bands, along
with all-time favorites - Over There, and Stars & Stripes Forever - a
great tribute to America!
On July 15, we will perform BRAVO BRASS! The HHSO's resident brass
quintet, featuring trumpets William Denton, and Paul Wesley Lott, French
horn Stephanie Furry, and trombones Carl Polk and Mark Sellman will play
music from four centuries, spanning from the Renaissance to the modern
era, as the quintet showcases a variety of styles from Baroque
counterpoint to Ragtime to Pop-Rock. The players will also be borrowing
from the library of audience-pleasing arrangements by the world-renowned
Canadian Brass.
July 29 will feature an evening of popular Broadway plays , BROADWAY
TONIGHT! Under the baton of visiting conductor, Manny Alvarez. You'll
hear great music from "Guys and Dolls", "South Pacific", "Phantom of the
Opera", "Chicago", "West Side Story", and one of America's finest
baritones, Hal McIntosh.. It will be an evening to remember!
We are grateful to the Town of Hilton Head for their support of our new
Performance Shell which we will make available for use to other local
organizations. We are very excited to be able to offer summer
performances, and present Hilton Head with yet another cultural
experience.
Please join us on July 1, 15 and 29 and celebrate with us "under the
stars" ! Tickets for the upcoming "Picnic & Pops" July events will be
available onsite the evening of the performance. Bring a family picnic,
your own chairs or blankets, and enjoy a "concert in the park".
Admission is $20 (children under 12 free), gates open at 6:30, hour-long
concert begins at 8:00 pm.
